When the suffering is so unbearable no one else can stand to watch, I’m glad GOD doesn’t turn away.

All too often, I find myself more absorbed in ruminations about whatever predicament has snagged my focus than I am in thoughts of God, His will, and His faithfulness. Like Abraham, I need to be reminded of God’s power and His promises. Does this ever happen to you?

We get rattled on occasion. And sometimes …. we forget.

Isn’t the carefree innocence of feeling safe, no matter what, because “Dad’s” here, something every child ought to be able to take for granted? Sadly, it isn’t.

Their examples influence us as we gather a sense of our worth and our place in this world… as we form our first impressions about who we are, and even more… about Who God is.

The story of Lot’s wife challenges us to focus on the joys ahead of us instead of on regrets about what we left behind…. to make the most of today’s possibilities as we eagerly anticipate the promises of tomorrow.

Have you ever thought about how often God says, “Yes”? When it comes to loving His children and relentlessly pursuing their good, His answer is an absolute and unequivocal YES!! It’s a habit He has demonstrated from the very beginning of time…

Has God ever drug you “kicking and screaming” out of a place you didn’t need to be, thus rescuing you from disaster you didn’t even see coming? I’m thankful for the times His mercy was stronger than my resistance and the force of His love greater than the force of my fears. Where would any of us be without God’s relentless pursuit of our good?

Why is it we always have so many ideas? I’ve offered plenty of my own “suggestions” during times when I questioned God’s plan, His timing… or both.

How comforting to know that, no matter how lost we feel, we aren’t lost to Him!

Be it taking a walk or taking a nap, playing games at the kitchen table or playing music on the front porch, chatting over coffee (or making coffee!) I want my home to be a place where people know they are loved and listened to, a place where people come to have their souls nurtured, where they come to talk… or not, somewhere where others experience the freedom to be themselves, to let go… to breathe.

Not every affront requires confrontation and sometimes expressing mercy is more important than expressing our point of view.

It’s easy to blame “God’s will” when things go wrong, but how often do we experience less of His power in our lives simply because we aren’t bold enough to ask for more?

Some folks don’t want to step out of their comfort zone at any age, and then there’s Abram…. How would you like to begin a new life at 75 years old? What kind of faith would compel you to do that? But Abram had a call to answer!

A lot of folks struggle with Genesis. The truth is, every bit of scientific fact not only doesn’t contradict the Bible; it actually supports it. This story gets our attention because it’s extreme… so extreme in fact that it’s easy to miss the personal application. I’ve never really thought of myself as being like Cain, but a second look at his story reveals more similarities than I care to admit.

Innocence undone, Adam and Eve stand exposed… naked and in shame. God steps in… nurturing, providing comfort, restoring dignity. It’s what He’s been doing ever since.

 What better place to start than at the beginning? Genesis gets us off on the right foot.... We are given a succession of stories of named people, people who loved and quarreled, believed and doubted, had children and married, experienced sin and grace. If we pay attention, we find that we ourselves are living variations on these very stories. -The Message

In a world without constants where it seems everything changes, human nature doesn’t change. Generations come and go through time and across cultures, but human nature remains the same. … and so does God’s. The more I come to know and love Him, the more thankful I am that God in the Old Testament is God today. His power, His grace, and His love are as constant now as they were when He created the world, when He redeemed the world, and as they will be for eternity.
