Stories, Skits, Songs and Stickers
Armed with what seemed like thousands of stickers donated by various church members, we drove to a nearby coffee community and hosted a VBS. There was singing time (thanks to a CD of songs in Spanish), Bible time (thanks to a bilingual friend who told the stories as we performed them), and craft time.
Each evening, not only did more and more kids show up, but they showed up earlier and earlier. I'd like to think it was the great acting or maybe even the songs or hugs but everyone on the team knows it wasn't any of that.
It was the stickers! They were excited about the stickers. They put them on their faces; they put them up and down their arms; they put them on their clothes.
These children loved stickers more than anyone I'd ever seen!
Here is one of the sets of twins who attended VBS. They came every evening and, as you can imagine, were very popular!
The sweet faces of the children of Plan de la Cruz, their ability to appreciate small things and their sheer exuberance over some simple stickers are memories I will treasure forever.
